Back to Basics!

The end of the school year beckoned as over 45 Explorer Scouts aged 14 to 18 yrs old from the five Units in Woking enjoyed a fun packed weekend in lovely hot sunshine camping at their local campsite in Wisley last weekend.

During the weekend Explorer scouts representing ; Challenger unit from Knaphill,  Martian unit from Horsell,  the Wey Ahead unit from Pyrford  the Maverick unit based in Westfield and the Phoenix unit in Byfleet, had to build their own shelters to sleep in, construct an oven and cook typical old fashion breads.

The activities included giant six a side table football knockout matches, using poles strapped to their backs and a yoga ball as the football.

On the Sunday a giant forty metre slide was constructed down one of the hills on the common and with the aid of washing up liquid and water the scouts were challenged to see how far and how quickly they could travel.

The young people gave some of their time during the  weekend to clear brambles and trees around the    campsite, and also paint one of the site buildings.

The weekend was planned entirely by the Scouts and  was aimed as a chill out and relaxing camp for the  Explorers, after a full term of school and college exams  and an opportunity to try new things using old skills
