Every year since 1986 Woking District Scouts have organised and run a weekend camp at Woodlarks Campsite, near Farnham to give children with Special Needs from the Woking area a chance to try typical Scouting activities. Explorer Scouts are ‘buddied’ with Special Needs children on a one to one (or two to one if necessary) basis and work together in Patrols for the whole weekend.
WOODLARKS is set in twelve acres of beautiful countryside just outside Farnham. It is purpose built to cater for people with disabilities and has wheelchair access to all areas, including the heated outdoor swimming pool, bathrooms, showers and toilets.Tents are supplied and mattresses and blankets are available.Swimming is optional twice a day and the pool is supervised by qualified life-guards
The camp caters for 60 to 70 Scouts, and children with Special Needs. They are supported by approximately 80 Leaders, instructors and adult helpers, including a nurse and full time first aider. Early morning tea, breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper + break-time drinks and snacks are supplied throughout the weekend – but the young people do the washing up! Scouts and Special Needs children gain from the experience of living and working together and many ask to return the following year
