Jean Goodale
Very sadly, Jean passed away on 16th August after a very brave battle with cancer. She was able to get to the Fellowship Salad Supper in July when we all appreciated her company. Her funeral on 3rd September was attended by sixteen Fellowship members and we organised the parking, handed out service sheets and provided a Guard of Honour. The service had been prepared by her family so that it really captured her personality.
We will all have many memories of Jean's time as a Fellowship member, from acting as a skilled quizmaster to willingness to assist with catering on many occasions. Jean visited the 50th World Jamboree at Sutton Coldfield in 1957 and she formed part of the Woking group who visited the Centenary Jamboree at Highlands Park in 2007. We will all miss her so much.

Cruise on Basingstoke Canal
Fellowship members were delighted to welcome a number of family members and friends to our very successful Cruise on the Basingstoke Canal on 5th September, making us a party of twenty seven in total. We boarded the John Pinkerton narrow boat at Colt Hill Wharf and proceeded up the Canal as far as Odiham Castle, where we briefly left the boat to visit the well maintained ruins. On our return journey, we enjoyed a splendid cream tea. The crew included Brian Tidbury, one of our members, and they were all exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Talk on Woking CAB
Hazel Craig Waller, the Director of the Woking Citizens Advice Bureau, came to speak to us on 8th September. She gave an excellent account of the history of the Woking Bureau and described current problems dealt with by the advisers. She presented two case studies and the debt problems involved were really horrifying. However, we were all envious when she said that she doesn't have any difficulty in recruiting volunteers to be advisers, despite training over 15 weeks being required.

Who are we?
We are a group of adults who support Scouting in Woking. We are part of Woking District and have our own Assistant District Commissioner and Chairman.
Who can belong?
Anyone from the age of 18 upwards who has an interest in Scouting, whether or not they have made the Scout or Guide Promise. All members have to be CRB checked and undertake Module 1 of the Leader Training.
What do we do?
We provide 'Active Support' at District events to Beaver Scout Colonies, Cub Scout Packs, Scout Troops and Explorer Scout Units. We can provide occasional help to warranted leaders at weekly meetings. We help at County Events such as Bazzaz, Scram, Scoutabout, night hikes and training days. Members with particular practical skills and knowledge can provide a valuable service as Advisors. We have an active social life involving meals out, quizzes, talks, visits and outings.
Where do we meet?
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding August, at our District Headquarters in Westfield Avenue, Woking, at 8pm unless a change of venue or time has been previously notified. What does it cost? Our subscription is £5 per year. How do we know what's happening? All of our activities, both social and support, are noted in 'Fellowship Times' which goes to all members on a monthly basis, either electronically or by post. We also have a website www.wokingscoutfellowship.co.uk
